Timarchus

Politician

separator

Athenian citizen and politician, who was accused of homosexual prostitution by fellow politician Aeschines in a bid to revoke his citizenship (as part of a strategy to delay a treason charge); Aeschines succeeded in his suit, and Timarchus was disenfranchised, until he had the charges reversed three years later; Aeschines' speech Against Timarchus provides modern scholars with valuable information on the ancient Athenians' attitudes towards homosexuality.
