"2wo Third3"
(active 1993 - present) U.K.
Pop group
The group first started when two twenty-year-olds, Lee Thomas and Victor, met at Fruit Machine in the London gay nightclub, Heaven. They formed the group with someone called Justin. In May 1993 the group won a talent competition organised by Boyz magazine and were given the opportinity to work with pop promoter Tom Watkins who had managed the Pet Shop Boys, Bros, and East 17.
The intention was to create another band like Bronski Beat. Because of musical differences Justin left the group and was replaced by the twenty-year-old Danny who had worked with Tom Watkins as a talent scout. A fourth member, Biff, worked on the music behind the scenes and appeared on their promotional material as a cartoon character.
The name 2wo Third3 was meant to imply that two out of the three band members were gay, but they were rather coy about the matter. The first issue of Ivan Massow's Phase magazine in March 1994 contained an interview with Lee Thomas of 2wo Third3, but when asked about their sexuality he responded with: 'The day that people stop asking the question then that is the day that it's normal. I don't really think it's that big an issue'.
Their biggest hit was I Want the World which was number 20 in the British charts in October 1994.
