(August 1946 - living) U.S.A.
DJ and remix specialist - Electronica/Dance, House, Garage
Born as Donald Mattern in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, his hopes included someday being a fashion designer in New York City. So, in the early seventies, without many friends, he left the small city, and began attending Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
Struggling, at one point he went on welfare, attending beauty school before working as a hairdresser and doing freelance fashion illustration. A friend convinced Junior to give up his dreams on fashion and he took a job at a record store.
During this period, he met people like Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan (who spun at Paradise Garage), and Keith Haring. Junior's new found interest was in the DJ life. He started his own club, Bassline, after Paradise Garage closed in 1984. In 1989 he took a DJ/Partner position at the Sound Factory where he worked six years.
After Sound Factory closed in 1995, Junior worked at the Tunnel and the Paladium before returning to the same spot Sound Factory once filled in 1997, Twilo. He has been single since splitting with his last boyfriend in June 1999.
It was in the mid-90s when Madonna put Junior to work, to remix som songs off her Bedtime Stories album. He has also remixed for Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Kristine W. and Whitney Houston, Cindy Lauper, Prince and John Mellencamp. Now he releases his own work - more recently Earth Music which includes tracks by Ke', Sono, Billie Ray Martin, Kevin Aviance, and Deborah Cox.
