Jamie Washington

Activist, educator


Dr. Washington earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Slippery Rock State College in Therapeutic Recreation and Music, and a Master's of Science degree from Indiana University/ Bloomington in Higher Education Administration and in Counseling with a concentration in Human Sexuality.

He holds a PhD in College Student Development, with a concentration in Multicultural Education from the University of Maryland at College Park and is currently enrolled in the Master's of Divinity Program at Howard University in Washington, DC.

He serves as the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group, a Multicultural Organization Development firm out of Baltimore, Maryland. He is a senior consultant with The Equity Consulting Group of California and Elsie Y. Cross and Associates out of Philadelphia. Dr. Washington has served as an educator and administrator in higher education for over 18 years.

Dr. Washington is a founding faculty member of the Social Justice Training Institute, a weeklong trainer development program drawing participants from across the country from higher education, business, and social services agencies. He has held several leadership positions and has been honored for his work in the areas of diversity and leadership.

He is a nationally renown speaker, consultant, and trainer on Diversity, Leadership, Spirituality, Organizational Change and Community Development issues. He has served as the Minister of Music at Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church for 11 years, and founded the Prison Ministry and works with inner city youth as a mentor.

Active with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), he served as a panellist on the nationally broadcast teleconference "Understanding and meeting the needs of Gay, Lesbian, and bisexual students" (National Univ. Teleconf. Network, February, 1992).
