Karen has over 20 years of experience in the publishing business, web site producing, editorial development and content strategy. She has been a senior manager at firms like Studio Archetype (formerly the premier information design and interactive consultancy) and Siegelgale (old-line brand/identity firm).
She was creative director for content strategy at Sapient, a large web-building company (which acquired Studio Archetype). Karen has worn an editorial hat at Upside Media, where she was executive editor of the magazine and executive producer of Upside.com, a site she moved from monthly to daily.
She was also lead editorial producer at PlanetOut during its 1996 launch on AOL and the Web, and a co-founder of Digital Queers. She has contributed reviews, commentary and usability critiques to a variety of magazines and sites including CNET, Computer Currents, The Net magazine and the New York Times. She co-authored an early (1995) Atlas to the World Wide Web, one of the first consumer Web guides.
