Dr. Edith Bickerton Williams
(1898 - 1979) Canada
Veterinary doctor
Dr. Edith Bickerton Williams (1898-1979), Canadian veterinary doctor (one of only five female veterinarians in Ontario during the 1930s); she and physician Frieda Fraser had a love affair that lasted 62 years, from 1918 until Williams' death in 1979 at the age of 81.
The two women recorded their relationship through letters that began in 1925, when Williams' parents sent her away to England to keep her away from Fraser in Toronto. In a 1926 letter Williams writes:
"My best beloved, I love you without any reservations and more than I would have believed possible to do - I adore you - and it must be for always because I don't see how there could be any me without it."
