Kirk Williams was interviewed by Swerve, Winnipeg's Queer News-magazine, about Pride Day, while he was Senior News Producer for CBC Manitoba's evening news program, 24 Hours, in 1998.

"Opening the closet door is a big, scary step. But most of us realize that once we step out just a bit, it's not as scary as we thought. Nothing has surprised me more than finding out as a gay man I can have a picture of my partner on my desk, socialize as a couple with our neighbours and enjoy an integrated family life. Surprising maybe, but perhaps one day it won't be. That will only happen when more of us are willing to share a little bit of our lives with the rest of the world. Lives that really aren't all that different... lives without shame."
