Cathy Woolard
(? - living) U.S.A.
Councilwoman
Altanta city council member who spearheaded a non-discrimination law which included protections based on sexual orientation (2000). Elected president of the Altanta city council, she is the first openly gay politician in Georgia state history.
She was the first openly gay elected official in Georgia (some would also claim the South) as a City Councilmember and later went on to win the City Council Presidency (Atlanta's second highest elected position right after Mayor) in a runoff against five other candidates. The pundits said it couldn't be done but she proved them all wrong.
