Aaron Young was born in San Francisco, Clifornia. He is a graduate of San Francisco Art Institute (2001) and Yale's M.F.A. (2004).
He is visiting faculty in the new Genres department. He describes his work as "an attack." Known for aestheticizing macho aggression, his work has included a growling pit bull clamping onto a rope in his video Good Boy, and Young once filled a gallery with a revving motorbike's tire prints and exhaust.
The San Francisco native (and current New Yorker) claims special inspiration from fellow West Coast artist Chris Burden. "He's referring to approaches that were common in the sixties and seventies," says MoMA and P.S. 1 curator Klaus Biesenbach about Young, "but he is making them cutting-edge."
Aaron Young lives and works in New York.
