Sexual Offences - assault with sodomitical intent divider

Thomas Dalton, alias Doulton, was indicted for a Misdemeaner, in Assaulting Joseph Yates, with an intent to commit Sodomy with him.

Joseph Yates then depos'd.

About 9 at Night, as I was a sleep upon a Bench in St. James's park, the Prisoner waked me, and we walked together. He squeez'd my Hand hug'd me in his Arms, call'd me his dear, and ask'd me to go and drink with him.

I guest at what he wanted, and so carried him to a Friends House of mine, (the Crown in the Strand ) opposite York-house.

I took the Drawer aside, and told him, I had got a Sodomite, desir'd him to shew us a Room, and bring some Witnesses to stand privately, and watch my Gentlemans motions, and the Drawer did accordingly.

This Evidence then, and several others after him, related the indecent and filthy behaviour of the Prisoner.

Upon which the Jury found him Guilty.

[Punishment: pillory; fine; imprisonment]
